A short stay in Dali and a quick hop in Kunming
Hi all!
This morning, we arrived in Kunming after a couple of days spent in Dali (both located in the Yunnan province of China). But we’re only here for a day because we managed to get tickets in the sleeper train tonight to get to Guilin (an 18-hour ride after last night’s 10-hour hard-sleeper ride!)
Since we’re taking the sleeper train two days in a row, we treated ourselves to an upgrade: tonight we’ll both have a luxury soft-sleeper bottom berth!
During our stay in Dali, we mostly hung around town (taking pictures of the people in traditional costumes), we rode bikes for a day (we both got sunburns, and Kath fell in a rice paddy), and Roland got a 1-hour body massage for approximately 5 euros!
Today we walked around town, and we visited our first Carrefour store (it’s a famous French chain of supermarkets)! They do however sell things that one would not find in any store in France, such as live fish (that you fish out of the tank by yourself) and live frogs! Check out the photo gallery ;-)
After that, we walked to a nice park with people singing and dancing (it seems to be a national pastime!) and feeding the fishes. There also was a pond covered with lotus flowers – it actually was a very relaxing couple of hours ;-)
Beside that, we managed yesterday to put the videos online – we created a special folder in the photo gallery (go on the second page!) and from there you can see them all. Most of them do not have comments yet, so you’ll have to browse through to see what’s on!

Nous suivons régulièrement votre périple et sommes émerveilllés par les photos et souvent amusés par les commmentaires.
Nous aussi vivons l’aventure : nous revenons de Paris où nous sommes montés en haut de la tour Montparnasse entre autre!!! chacun ses frissons…..
En tout cas, un grand merci pour votre gentille carte. Nous pensons bien à vous et serons heureux de vous revoir dans nos contrées.
