Putain 1 an ! 365 days later…

On this day last year, at the very same time, we were flying from Lyon to London, and thus starting our long journey. Twelve months later, we still are travelling!

So, how come we’re not back yet?
There are seveal reasons:

1- As opposed to travellers with “round-the-world” plane tickets which are valid only for 1 year, we buy our flights along the way so we’re able to keep going beyond this limit!

2- We’ve managed (up until now) to keep our budget tight, so we’re not (yet) broke!

3- To tell the truth, 12 months or travel are very tiring: it’s not always holidays! And we’re really starting to miss family and friends. On the other hand, we’re visiting fantastic places, and we don’t want to waste this opportunity. So far, we’ve always found motivation to keep on travelling.

But, well, we have started to prepare our return journey, and first news: it won’t be before the end of June!

In spite of its high price, we decided to do the 4-day “Inca trail” hike that leads up to Machu Picchu, Peru – you need to book months ahead, and the first available date for us was on June 10th!

After that, we think we’ll fly from Quito, Ecuador, to Madrid (because that’s the cheapest transatlantic flight we’ve found), and then to Lyon with Easyjet. So we’ll probably need 2 to 3 weeks after Machu Picchu, to get down the mountains, visit Lima (and the many things along the way) and Ecuador before flying back to Lyon!

And then? Where will we live?
That’s the big question, the one we’ve been pondering ever since our first day of travelling.

After 3 and a half years in France, far from Kath’s family, we think it’s time to get a bit closer to them – that’s why, at this time, we’re thinking of moving to Vancouver to start over in Canada!

So the future will be full of exciting things – But, really, none of this is sure yet: besides Machu Picchu, NOTHING IS BOOKED!

We reserve the right to change our minds, especially since each time we’ve booked a ticket in advance, we eventually regretted having done so! So we would prefer not repeat past mistakes, and we’d rather wait for the last minute to choose. Some may say that it’s not very reasonable, but frankly after having quit our jobs and leaving for a trip around the world, it doesn’t seem that crazy to us ;-)

So that’s it, we just wanted to give you the heads up, even if it actually doesn’t say much…

Anyway, we’re impatient to see you all again, because 365 days is a long time!

ps: it seems that none of the postcards we sent from Ushuaia actually made it! But we don’t remember who we sent them to, and we sent quite a lot of them! So, if you haven’t received any postcard from us over the past year, please let us know so we don’t forget you before the end of our trip ;-)

Eh oui, déjà 12 mois loin de nous !!!
Mais que de péripéties pour vous, de rencontres, d’aventures que vous nous avez fait partager par le biais de ce blog (ou sur facebook !). ON rêve aussi de Lyon, où le temps est gris depuis trois jours alors que le printemps semblait bien installé depuis fin avril !

Alors comme ça vous allez passer une partie de l’été en Europe, avant de vous envoler peut être pour l’Ouest canadien ?
En tout cas, il va bien falloir qu’on se voit pour une super fiesta (genre l’immense barbecue avant votre départ !!!).

Pour ma part j’ai repoussé mon périple canadien pour l’été 2011, les finances n’étant pas au beau fixe ces temps ci (problèmes de voiture…)

Je suis heureux d’apprendre que la famille et les amis vous manquent un petit peu.
On se connait très peu mais les messages ont été et sont sincères.
A la fin de cette semaine, nous serons en Bretagne pendant une semaine avec Renaud, Adeline et Maxime en tout une famille de 12 adultes et trois petits enfants.Sans les photos vous avez très bien montré ce que vous vivez au quotidien, vos projets sont à réaliser, le présent est à vivre dans l’instant.
